It's a gut punch. Here are practical steps Florida homeowners can take, and how to find someone trustworthy to finish the work.
Gather everything
Save texts, emails, receipts, photos of the work, and any written estimate or contract. Dates matter.
Look up their license
Search their name at myfloridalicense.com. If they were licensed, you can file a complaint with the Florida DBPR.
Florida also has a Homeowners' Construction Recovery Fund that may help homeowners harmed by licensed contractors in certain cases. Check the DBPR website for eligibility.
Find a verified pro to finish the job
